Specialty Semiconductors

Compounds

Cadmium telluride

5N - 7N

Available Forms

  • Ingot
  • Powder

5N Plus is the leading supplier of cadmium telluride (CdTe) to the solar cell (photovoltaic) industry. Typically requiring 5N purity, cadmium telluride is a semiconductor that enables the efficient conversion of solar energy into electricity.

CdTe is also used to manufacture nuclear radiation detectors (X-ray and gamma ray) for medical use.

Applications

  • Terrestrial Renewable Energy
  • Imaging and Sensing

Cadmium Zinc Telluride

6N - 7N

Available Forms

  • Ingot

Cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) is used to manufacture radiation detectors (X-ray and gamma ray) that do not require cooling and that produce excellent resolution by directly converting radiation into an electric signal. Raw materials (cadmium, tellurium and zinc) of very high purity are required to manufacture this type of detector.

Applications

  • Imaging and Sensing

Also available

  • Zinc Telluride
