Purely and simply because we care about protecting the environment, and because we’re conscious of the environmental impact our metals make, we’ve set specific targets for reducing our environmental footprint.

5N Plus actively promotes initiatives for managing resources responsibly, recycling, and reducing our energy consumption. This is why we’ve developed recycling solutions for metal that would otherwise be disposed of. In addition to responding to environmental concerns, our ability to process materials with low metal content, and to convert them into high purity products, enhances the security of our supply of raw materials.

In today’s environment, every act counts. Here’s some of what we’re doing:

ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certification;
Sustainable Development Committee, made up of 5N Plus employees;
Since 2007, 5N Plus has been a proud partner in Montréal’s first Plan stratégique de développement durable [strategic plan for sustainable development]. We’re also active participants in drawing up the second plan, to cover the period from 2010 to 2015;
Full domestic waste and dangerous domestic waste recovery program ;
Program to reduce the use of drinking water in our operations;
Program to reduce energy consumption ;
Clear instructions to eliminate engine idling during deliveries ;

Promotion of bicycle commuting by making bicycles available to employees;
On September 20, 2007, Vélo-Québec awarded 5N Plus the Entreprise vélo-sympathique de l’année [bike-friendly company of the year] prize, in the 100 or more employees category: External Link >
Employee participation in Québec’s Défi Climat (climate challenge) campaign;
As part of Earth Day, 5N Plus employees planted trees supplied by the city of Montréal: External Link >
At the 25th Alpha Gala held on April 23, 2009, 5N Plus won the 2009 Design et production écodurables [environmentally sustainable design and production] prize, awarded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Saint Laurent in co operation with the Centre d’expertise sur les matières résiduelles [centre for waste expertise]: External link >
