The R&D laboratory technician performs various hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical, or electrochemical tests at the request of their immediate supervisor. These tests are carried out with the aim of developing new processes or improving existing ones. He or she must set up, take parameters, collect samples and record all observations relevant to the progress of projects. He or she plans his or her days according to the schedule of his or her immediate supervisor in order to meet deadlines. The technician will participate in the development of a new process technology aimed at recovering critical minerals from copper concentrate streams. The position will involve working on a pilot scale.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development of new production methods for new products;
• Plan weekly tests to meet deadlines set by immediate supervisor;
• Conduct tests and analyze results;
• Record each test clearly and accurately in the laboratory logbook;
• Comply with health and safety guidelines and report any incidents in the workplace;
• Ensure the laboratory is clean and tidy;
• Update the results tracking file for each project;
• Maintain an inventory of chemicals;
• Identify and classify each new product received correctly;
• Order chemicals;
• Conduct documentary research and carry out tests based on the data and information found;
• Participate in the design of experiments and carry them out;
• Write summary reports and quality analyses;
• Assist in the monitoring and improvement of current processes.

Requirements and desired skills

• D.E.C. in analytical chemistry or another related discipline related to chemistry or metallurgy;
• Able to work independently;
• Meticulous, detail-oriented;
• Resourceful.
